So, I actually copied over the Windows USB storage driver from my other computer, which I never had any iPod troubles with. It turns out my problem was that the "USB Mass Storage Device" device in the Device Manager wasn't working right, indicated by a yellow exclamation point on its icon. So I decided to take matters into my own hands and try to figure out a solution on my own, and much to my surprise, I got it working!
